Questions
Why does it show IPv4 and not IPv6, or the other way round?
Each connection uses one address family, and your browser picks IPv6 when your network and our host both support it, IPv4 otherwise. The page shows the address of the connection your browser used. Your device may have an address of the other family too.
Why does a VPN or proxy change the address?
Our server sees the address your request arrives from. With a VPN, proxy or Tor, that is the address of the VPN or proxy server, not of your own connection, so the page shows that one.
Why is the location wrong?
It comes from IP geolocation: databases that estimate where networks use each address block, which Cloudflare, our host, looks up for every request. It describes the address, not you: a mobile network, a VPN or a recently moved block can place it in another city or country, so the page shows no map or coordinates.
What do the connection details mean?
HTTP and TLS are the versions your browser used to reach us (HTTP/3 and TLS 1.3 are the newest), the cipher is how the connection is encrypted, and the round trip is how long a packet takes from your device to the Cloudflare data center serving you and back, named by its nearest airport code (FRA is Frankfurt).
Is my IP address stored?
Our server reads your address from the request, sends it back to this page and doesn’t keep a log of these requests. Cloudflare, our host, handles the request like any other page request; our privacy policy has the details.
