How to use it
- 01Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right, drop a file onto either box, or pick one under Try.
- 02Read the differences: removed lines are marked −, added lines +, and the words that changed inside a line are highlighted. Switch between Split and Unified, and highlight words, characters or whole lines.
- 03Tick Ignore whitespace or Ignore case to hide those changes from the view, then Copy patch for a unified diff you can share or apply (the patch keeps every change).

Questions
What is a unified diff (patch)?
The format of diff -u and git diff: lines starting with - were removed, + were added, and a space means unchanged, with @@ lines giving where each change starts. Changing port 8080 to 8443 gives: @@ -1,2 +1,2 @@ host: 0.0.0.0 -port: 8080 +port: 8443
Why is a whole line marked when I changed one word?
The comparison works line by line first, then finds the changed words inside each pair of changed lines. Changing brown to red in one line counts as 1 line added and 1 removed, with only the word highlighted. Choose Lines to turn the word highlights off.
What does Ignore whitespace ignore?
Spaces and tabs at the start and end of each line. Spaces inside a line still count. Line endings (Windows CRLF or Unix LF) are always treated as the same, and a missing newline at the end of a text is noted, not shown as a change. Copy patch uses the original text’s line endings, so the patch fits that file: a file you drop in keeps CRLF, while text pasted into a browser always arrives with LF.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Both texts are compared in this tab. They aren't sent to our servers, and they aren't kept after you leave the page.
