Questions
Why does look like a space but not match one?
It decodes to a no-break space (U+00A0), a different character from an ordinary space: a search for a space won’t find it, and code comparing text treats it as different. Copy keeps it as it is.
Why do I still see < after decoding?
The text was escaped twice: < decodes to <, and decoding that again gives <. Paste the result back in to remove another layer.
Is it safe to paste HTML from an email or a web page?
Yes. The text is read by a parser that isn’t part of this page: tags stay as text, scripts don’t run and images aren’t loaded.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. It’s decoded in your browser as you type. It isn’t sent to our servers, put into the page address or saved.
